Super Yakima DIPA – ABV 9.6%

With tropical fruit aromas of passionfruit and mango, this is a full-throttle American-style DIPA with a super-long, bitter finish thanks to the new world hops.

Look: Pours light golden and hazy in the glass with a good off white head.

Aroma: Tropical fruit and pine with intense hoppiness

Taste: There is malt, citrus and passionfruit and mango with a nice long bitter finish the resinous hops.

Food Pairing: Salty meats stand up well to the intensity of the hops in a DIPA. Try this one while nibbling away at a plate of charcuterie.

Verdict: Whatever you look for in an American-style DIPA, this beer has got it.

Belgian Red – ABV 7.2%

Cherry – that’s the main ingredient and the main colour of this rich Belgian Red, with nutty continental malts and Saaz and Hersbrucker hops.

Look: Saltaire XS Belgian Red pours a rich ruby red in the glass with the aromas of banana and caramel.

Aroma: There isn’t any fruit listed in the ingredients, but you might feel inclined to check the label. It says hints of plum, but we think it’s more like juicy red cherries laced with banana, set against a smooth caramel malt body.

Food Pairing: There’s good deal of sweetness in this beer that pairs well with salty foods. If we were in Belgium we might be thinking of the Flemish speciality; ham and endive gratin – but it will works just as well with a plate of Yorkshire Ham and Wensleydale.

Verdict: Belgian Reds are sometimes referred to as ‘the Burgundy of Belgium’ – and we think this beer might just be deserving of the title ‘Burgundy of Bradford’. Delicious.

Hemel & Aarde Imperial Stout – ABV 10%

Made with Bruichladdich distillery malt – the most peated malt in the world – this smokey stout has creamy chocolate and liquorice notes to sweeten the deal.

Look: Just off pitch black and opaque, with creamy beige head.

Aroma: Imperious smokiness backed up with spicy licorice and dark chocolate,

Taste: More sweet peatiness plus a chocolate creaminess. Massively full-bodied with a bold, thick mouthfeel that persists before floating off in a cloud of sweet smoke.

Verdict: Hemel & Aarde, which translates to Heaven & Earth, uses loads of Earthy peat to make a beer that is really is rather Heavenly. Go figure.

Straffe Hendrik Quadruple – ABV 11%

Brewed by the last active brewery in Bruges, this quad is dark, chewy, malty and complex, thanks to its blend of specialty malts and Saaz and Styrian hops.

Look: Deep ruby brown and hazy with a large foamy beige head that lasts well.

Aroma: Dark chocolate and roasted malts plus loads of dark fruits: cherries, plums and blackcurrants

Taste: More forest fruits, backed up by caramel and sticky, syrupy sweetness. Some spicy hoppy accents and noticeable but overall well-hidden booziness in a medium-full body and clean dry finish.

Verdict: A living legend – and one that changes: let this quad age for a few months to get a richer taste profile. The last of its kind but still going strong.

American Barleywine – ABV 11%

A masterpiece of a Barleywine loaded with Cascade and Citra, with huge depth of dried fruit.

Look: Pours a dark, reddish brown in the glass with a thin white head that is gone no sooner that it appears.

Aroma: Dried fruit, red wine with a hoppy twist.

Taste: Rich, sweet and thick Barleywine packed with dried fruit a long bitter finish.

Verdict: Seriously rich and complex, this is right up there with Kees very best beers. One to be savoured slowly.

This robust Double IPA was first brewed to commemorate our 100th brew. MEGAWATT encapsulates the excitement and exuberance of our first full year in business. We think of it as a ‘Thank You’ in a bottle to everyone who’s supported us so far. It is now an annual release in December and we mix up the hops year to year to reflect how we are evolving and to showcase new varieties.

The 2017 release coincided with our 800th brew. This year it’s jam packed with juicy New World hops – Ekuanot, Bru1, Mosaic and Falconner’s Flight – for a strong and distinctive brew.
