Hybrid DIPA – ABV 8.7%

Five Point’s first ever DIPA, uses an unusual hybrid Kudriavzevii strain which gives a gentle spicy Belgian yeast character to complement lush, stone-fruit flavours of apricot, peach and mango the hops.

Hybrid DIPA was brewed with Wild Beer Co.

IPA – ABV 7.1%

A traditional IPA done well: bitter dry and crisp to make it extremely refreshing combined with sweet tropical fruit against a luxurious yet subtle caramel body.

Look: Five Points IPA pours a hazy golden colour with a nice slightly off white head.

Aroma: Grapefruit, peach and mango the combination of Cascade and Galaxy hops.

Taste: We get grapefruit and pine with more subtle tropical fruit against a softly carbonated caramel body.

Food Pairing:This beer works with salty foods and is equally at home with the umami flavour of meats. So why not do both? Try it with roast chicken and rub some salt into the skin to make it extra crispy.

Verdict: A long bitter finish that makes it extremely refreshing. A classic IPA.

London Smoke Porter – ABV 7.8%

Originally produced for #collabfest14, this collaboration is subtle in its smokiness and instead focuses on chocolate and liquorice thanks to East Kent Goldings hops.

Look: This Imperial Porter, brewed with smoked barley, pours black with a tan head and displays small amount of lacing.

Aroma: Bitter chocolate, liquorice, coffee grounds and a hint of smoke.

Taste: You get all those flavours with the addition of blackberry and vanilla, softly carbonated and nicely balanced with the smoke – which complements but never dominates.

Food Pairing: Pair this beer with smoky food to avoid a clash of flavours. It makes an excellent accompaniment to a bacon sandwich.

Old Greg’s Barley Wine – ABV 9.5%

This is the 2016 vintage of this excellent Barley Wine, bottle aged for 12 months, with dried fruit notes like raisins and a sweet complex booziness.

Look: It pours amber with a white head that quickly vanishes.

Aroma: Lots of dried fruit – prunes, dates and raisins in particular.

Taste: Sweet and rich with an undeniable boozy quality. If you leave it to age you can expect the complexity and richness of those fruit flavours to build and reduce any harshness the alcohol.

Food Pairings: The complex dried fruit flavours work really well with chocolate and nuts. Try it alongside a baked banana oozing with Nutella for a luscious dessert.

Verdict: Boozy, rich, sweet and delicious. We’ve been enjoying our small stash of the 2015 vintage over the past couple of months and this is a beer that will only get better with age.

Baltic Porter – ABV 8.4%

For this porter a cold-fermenting lager yeast with a clean, subtle flavour profile was used to allow the stewed and roasted malts to shine (all 10 of them no less). Toffee and caramel to start, leading into lightly spicy, hazelnut coffee and rich dark chocolate.

Brewed in collaboration with YellowBelly Beer.
